Ideas on how to break the news to my old best friend that I do not believe anymore
by life is to short inok i hope i do not regret posting this but here it goes.. i was at bethel and met this sister, i worked with her and we became best friends.
i never had a true family as my parents were abusive and i never fit in with any of the sisters when i pioneered all the sister hated me and let me know it very clearly.
i never had any friends in the truth before her so i was amazed that she found any good in me.

I found myself defending Jw's against this unscrupulous Christian!!
by AK - Jeff ini detest the religion of jehovah's witnesses.
deeply.
anyone who has followed my posting here for the past 6 years can attest to that!.

Perhaps it's best to let the vulchers in these religions pick each other to pieces and feast on each others carcasses.
Not literally - but Spiritually speaking. We wouldn't want reality to intrude on their little game.

Just been called on....gggrrrrr
by Lozhasleft inwe live in a 2nd floor apartment so they had to ring the buzzer ...2 ladies wanting to leave me a 'little tract'...after confirming they were jws i said:.
"please dont - may i suggest you go away and read the book 'crisis of conscience' by ray franz before you leave anymore of the tracts?
then you'll understand what actually goes on in the new york bethel.".

I used to be quite hard on the elders when they called but I have mellowed. I feel a certain compassion for the 'sisters' who call and nervously offer me a tract.
Two women called on me a few weeks ago. They invited me to their Circuit assembly. I asked if I could go with them if I attended. They giggled but declined my generous offer.
I then asked if we would get a new date for Armageddon at the assembly, now that the last one had passed. They said they were not sure!

Starfish Hello good evening & Welcome (as David Frost used to say)
It is fortunate that you have been able to leave as a family and have each other to lean on.
Never take each others support for granted.

Is it unacceptable to stand up for Jehovah's Witnesses on a site called Jehovah's-Witness.net?
by THE GLADIATOR ini fail to see why people such as alice in wonderland, bane and others, are regularly singled out as tolls.
demands are repeatedly made that they are shunned and thrown off the forum; while people like perry, who rant on with pages of controversial drivel, are considered acceptable?.
i personaly don't view any of them as trolls, just people who feel a need to stand up for what they believe.

As nasty as JW supporters may get, they are still good value in forums .
They see their posts as positive for the WTBTS and we need to encourage that delusion for our advantage.
Black Sheep has stated above the Modus operandi that I lean towards. (I googled that just to look clever)
I understand that those of us who have recently left are not yet emotionally ready to deal with angry JWs or what have been, perhaps inaccurately, labeled trolls. Those of us who have been out for a long time can develop effective ways of dealing with angry, frustrated JWs that want to rage at us ‘apostates.’
Arguing people often have one thing in common. They are usually totally unable to admit they are wrong no matter how well facts are laid before them. Anyone who is married knows this!
Sometimes long after the row is over, they will quietly admit to themselves that they were wrong. They will seldom do this in the heat of the argument, for fear of losing face.
In verbal rows people will genuinely not register or remember what is said if it is unpalatable to them. Here what we say is recorded. People will often look back at exactly what was said and get a different take on the whole issue. This cuts both ways!

You guys offer some really good perspectives/insights on dealing with... or better yet, understanding some posters
That why they are JWs, they cant reason or hear, they believe they are right so no matter what you tell them they wont admit it. IF you try to reason with a JW you WILL waste your time. They can only come to their conclusions on their own. And in no other way. We cant post a reply for them to understand but for other who are lurking to see from a third person point of view the discussion and those are the ones who have the possibility to wake up and reason and understand.
I agree that even if the JWs we are debating with become insulting and refuse to see our point of view, what we say may help lurking JWs who have doubts. We have to remember that the JWs we label as Trolls are here because they are hurting. They too are damaged people who feel a need to battle to maintain their balance; both in their beliefs and at an emotional level.
They want to hurt us because they realize that we are a credible threat to their belief system. We attack something they value so they hit back. They seek to find our weaknesses and drive us away. We need to see this as a good result.
The alternative is that we chase away all JWs that do not sympathize with our views; or who are aggressive and unbending in their argument. Then we could just talk amongst ourselves and congratulate each other for being smart enough to leave the Tower. That would spoil all the fun!

Circle or Sphere ?
by wozza injw's teach that the bible is correct and scientific like when it uses the expression "the circle of the earth" ,and use this to prop their beliefs.. i wonder if in the original writings where this scripture is ,whether the term circle meant exactly that ,a flat object round in shape ,.
or if they meant a sphere .
surely the people around at the time of writing the scripture had the concept of the difference between a sphere and a circular flat object .. if that's the case and the language used meant only a flat round object and not a sphere ,why are the wts teaching that this is evidence that people can have confidence in the bible as gods word because it was scientifically correct thousands of years ago?

There seems to be a concensus that it is OK to support the views of JWs provided it is done in a reasonable and polite way. Sensitive subjects and people who are emotionally damaged should approached with empathy.
Some are genuine others are just seeking attention, but we can never know with absolute certainty how genuine anyone is, including the people who come here looking for sympathy.
Why do we not show this consideration to all emotionally damaged people, regardless of the bizarre beliefs they hold?

Your long post above sums up what prompted me to start this thread. I agree with your take on the reasons we should be prepared to debate with people whatever their beliefs.
It is through reasoned debate that opinions change.
